DMACC’s Career Discovery Network’s Explore Business Day, held Tuesday, October 12, featured a new component for the 2021-2022 school year, with the addition of Junior Achievement’s JA Titan program.
“This year we were looking for a new opportunity for our students to engage through hands-on learning to see what it really means to go into business,” said Amy Steenhoek, DMACC Work-Based Learning Coordinator. “I assisted with the JA Titan simulation over the summer and saw first-hand, students making real-time business decisions and working through all that goes into making those tough decisions.”
JA Titan is a simulation-based program in which high school students compete as business CEOs in the phone industry, experiencing firsthand how an organization evaluates alternatives, makes decisions, analyzes the outcomes of those decisions, and then strategizes what to do next. With a focus on financial literacy and insights into the workforce, JA Titan brings business economics to life. As students work in teams, or on their own, to make financial decisions about production, marketing, research, and development (R&D), and corporate social responsibility (CSR), they begin to see how every choice made in an organization relates to its future success.
In addition to JA Titan, during Explore Business Day, students participated in several DMACC program sessions including: Accounting, Business Administration: Entrepreneurship, Economics, Hospitality, Hotel & Restaurant Management, Management and Marketing. Students will also connect with DMACC graduates to learn how they’re using their education and training in Central Iowa.
High School students, parents and educators attended the free event on the DMACC Ankeny Campus. |
